The Group on Earth Observations Global Agricultural Monitoring Initiative (GEOGLAM) proudly marks fifteen years of international collaboration, this year, in support of agricultural monitoring, food security, and informed decision-making worldwide.
What began as early conversations within the GEO community evolved into a global initiative built on trust, shared purpose, consensus and scientific cooperation across institutions and regions. Over the years, GEOGLAM has brought together researchers, operational agencies, policymakers, and partners around a common mission: promoting the use of Earth observations for agricultural monitoring through collaboration, shared methods, good practices and coordinated action.
By sharing observations, insights, expertise, and methodologies across borders, GEOGLAM has demonstrated that coordinated global monitoring can achieve far more than any institution working alone. In many ways, GEOGLAM reflects the idea that the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts.
Over the past fifteen years, GEOGLAM has delivered timely and actionable information on crop conditions, helping support food security response, inform agricultural markets, and strengthen monitoring capacity worldwide.
GEOGLAMs journey started with the establishment of the GEO Agricultural Monitoring Task Force along with its Virtual Secretariat, which later became a physical secretariat in Geneva. This international Community of Practice has since expanded through the establishment of thematic and regional working structures and the development of the Crop Monitor systems.

Behind every successful monitoring system is a community of people helping move collaboration forward. GEOGLAM’s continued success reflects the commitment and goodwill of experts and institutions working together toward a shared global goal.
As GEOGLAM celebrates this milestone anniversary, we also look ahead—to continued innovation, stronger partnerships, and sustained global cooperation in support of agricultural resilience and food security worldwide.
GEOGLAM welcomes continued collaboration from institutions, researchers, practitioners, and partners committed to strengthening global agricultural monitoring and food security.
