Under India’s Presidency, the G20 Ministers of Agriculture, assembled on 16-17 June 2023 in Hyderabad, India to reiterate their commitment to food security and nutrition for all, through the development of inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agriculture and food systems.

Among other outcomes, GEOGLAM continues to actively contribute to:

• The call for closer collaboration for agriculture early warning for improved food and nutrition security and increased support to developing countries in alignment with SDG2 -Zero Hunger.
• Highlight the significance of digitization in transforming agri-food systems, increased public and private finance to support digital infrastructure, as well as increased collaboration and capacity building for underrepresented groups.
• Increase collaboration in climate-smart agriculture technologies, nature- and ecosystem-based approaches and use of existing local traditional knowledge for sustainable agriculture, in support of climate change adaptation and mitigation under the UNFCCC COP and the Paris Accord.

Further, the G20 ministers:

• Stressed the importance of diverse, safe and sustainably produced nutritious food as well as the significance of sustainable agricultural research and development and welcomes the international research initiative for millet and other ancient grains.
• Underscored the importance of diversified and inclusive Agri-value chains and food systems, the role of smallholder farmers, women, youth and indigenous peoples in the resilience of such value chains, as well as a rules-based, open, predictable, transparent, non-discriminatory, inclusive, equitable and sustainable multilateral trading system in strengthening long-term resilience of global agri-food markets.
• Endorsed the Deccan High Level Principles on Food Security and Nutrition 2023, committing to foster coordination and facilitate united approach towards alleviating global hunger and malnutrition.
